Competition Opportunities

UMFA offers various competition and performance opportunities for students.  Here are links to details about each of them.

Performance Opportunities

  • Rising Stars Festival - for flutists of all ages.  Students perform solo and ensemble pieces in a friendly, non-competitive environment at the annual UMFA flute festival.  They receive a certificate of participation and constructive comments from a professional flutist.
  • Suzuki Flute Choir - for students of all levels.  Students will have opportunities to premiere new flute choir works in the 2015 Marathon Concert, Flute Choir Showcase, and Flute Fest.
  • Honors Flute Choir - for outstanding Junior and Senior High School students.  Students must audition to participate in the choir.  Selected students rehearse together for a day and perform a concert for family and friends.
  • UMFA Parlor Concerts - for all ages and levels.  UMFA members perform for a small, friendly audience in concerts hosted at peoples' homes.  Performances are usually followed by delicious food and a flute choir reading session!
  • Check out our Summer Flute/Music Camps page for more performance opportunities.

UMFA maintains a list of competition opportunities for flute students in the Upper Midwest.  If you’d like to submit an item for the list, please email admin@umfaflutes.org with the competition’s name, website, and age range/level.
